I am Khusboo from Kolkata. At present Im doing my MBA. I have been crafting ever since i could remember. I love buying different craft materials but when it comes to using them I get a little naggy as I just want to store them forever.. My parents have been a great support for me in my process of learning. They were always ready for my crafting venture. I do a lot of research work over the net and has learnt a lot from it. MAKE YOUR OWN EPOXY CLIPS

Have you ever wondered what to do with the tiny stamps in the set expect the backgrounds?In most of the stamp set only 3 to 4 main images are there and others are like fillers n really small:)Here is a simple tutorial to use them n make your own epoxy pins.

Supplies needed:
Stamps,ink pads,circle punch,blending tool,bell clips,glue n gloss.

Punch out circles in white card stock n stamps the desired designs.Distress the edges with ink pads.

Apply a thick coating of glue n gloss n allow it to dry for at least 4 hours.

Once it completely dried it becomes totally transparent n the designs will be clear.Fix it to the pin with glue gun.If you don't have stamps are feel lazy to stamp,you can directly punch out pattern papers n apply glue n gloss:).The last 2 pins in the picture is made with pattern papers.In this way you can even customize it for your projects with the same pattern paper:).

Tips:If use use card stock pattern paper you can fix it directly to the pin,if it is paper then mount it on a card stock n fix it to the pin.
Don't ever keep the pins one above the other,keep it fixed to a card stock otherwise it get sticked to each other.I have spoiled few of them like that:((

I have used chart papers to make these flowers , The leaves are artificial.
I was surprised at the result. these flowers are too elegant considering how easy it is to make.
We don't even have to be precise, while cutting out the shapes. It gives it a natural look.

GETTING CREATIVE WITH PATTERN PAPER SCRAPS.

I bet almost all the crafters are miser when it comes to pattern papers,its same with me.I save even a tiniest paper(i mean it) and if you have some small punches n dies you will never be disappointed for hoarding those scraps.Here is my first tutorial on how to use your scraps in a innovative way.

This is all you need..

Pattern paper scraps
Distress inks and blending tool
Circle dies or punches
Card stock for base&
Glue

I have used first 2 sizes of spellbinders plain circle dies for this,you can even use some medium size punches if you dont have the dies.

First cut all the papers in 2 to 3 different size.Distress them individually.

Glue all the pieces individually n start sticking one by one over lapping each other.Since it is in circle shape go ousite the card stock in the corners.Stick in the same style for whole of the card stock,remeber the card stock should not be seen any where.

Once you finish it off,allow to dry for some time and trim the excess in the outer edge.You can either stop with this step and use as it is.Or try the next step to give even more finishing.

I have embossed it with distressed stripes embossing folder,this will help you to merge all the papers well and give as finished look as a single paper.

Tips:

Use only 2 to 3 size of circles,not more than that.
Stick it in a balanced way with alternate light n dark color n sizes.
Don't not use a very intricate design embossing folder or a simple one,the former will not allow the pattern paper designs to show off,the later will not be seen at all.Use a medium one.

ANGLE PUNCHING

Don't you just love when you can use your supplies in different ways?that is the one way you can get more out of your money you put in.I was so excited when i watched a video for this angle punching,i spent a whole evening to get it right.Of course this is quiet difficult n i wasted lots of paper for practice,but its worth giving it a try.Since this needs a video tutorial(in which i am not good)i am linking up the orginal tutorials.There are 3 parts one for each design:

FEATURED ARTIST-PRITESH FROM QUILL ME SOFTLY

Hi all,
the first featured artist here in my new blog is pritesh from"Quill me softly".Very recently i came across here blog n i am impressed with her quilling works.In fact,it made me want to start my quilling again.So i thought of asking her to be the first featured artist n she happily agreed.But only after i saw her article i came to know she is good in paintings too.
Over to pritesh...

I am Pritesh (actually, Dr. Pritesh now), working as post-doctoral researcher in Semiconductor Materials Physics division of Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm. Though a scientist by profession, I can safely claim to have been an artist at heart always.

My earliest memories of practicing art go back to my school notebooks where I used to outline my hand and draw hyper-dense mehndi patterns while waiting for the school bus to pick us up in the afternoons. My mother was constantly upset with me for 'wasting' those pages but I continued. Somehow, I was always bad at art taught in school (I nearly flunked my exam once!). I had my own style and found it very difficult to learn any other.

By the time I was 13-14 yrs old, I was drawing reasonably well. My brother was always the inspiration, being SO good at drawing. I borrowed his colours and brushes and drew a painting which was selected for school display board. I guess, that made me believe in my capabilities.

Serious attempts at Art largely happened during my M.S. at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. I was finally 'earning' and hence, didn't feel guilty for spending on Art. IISc had huge open spaces in hostels and I meddled with Rangolis. After I met my (to-be) husband, my Rangoli style changed too, instead of making tendril-rich and floral Rangolis, I started making realistic, life-like Rangolis.

Somewhere around that time, I started experimenting with b/w and colour sketching as well. I was surprised to know my own flair for realistic drawing. While living alone, working as a post-doc at Gent University (Belgium), I had ample time on my hands and I started experimenting with sketching 'people' I knew. And I loved doing those sketches.

Quilling, the latest acquisition in my skill set, was something I had never considered as my cup of tea. My sister convinced me to try it and the first trial itself convinced me that THIS was something I would love to do, for a long time to come.

I read voraciously on the Internet (during my parental leave after the birth of my son) and discovered the blogs of quilling stalwarts like Suzana Ilic and Inna Dorman. I was so stumped by Suzana's creations that I vowed to try to be as close to her quilling expertise as I could manage to. Her unusual designs and extraordinarily good miniature work haunted me, literally. My mind was on a roll and ideas were springing out faster than I could convert them to quilling! I was going berserk! :) And slowly, I bought proper quilling tools. The proper tools made a world of a difference to the quality of quilling I could do.

I quill largely in my spare time (after my son goes to sleep) but am thinking up of new quilling motifs 24/7! LOL.

In partnership with my friend, Sayali, we have started an online venture, Aadyaa Originals to sell personalized quilled creations. We have already made and delivered a few orders, mostly to India. We also plan to undertake realistic sketching (portraits, specially). I am planning to take a break from Science (starting this January) and pursue Art full time. I hope our venture will succeed and we will be able to spread the joy of Art far and wide.

PHOTO FRAME TUTORIAL

Neha from Steps towards crafting is sharing a photo frame tutorial.

Supplies u will need...

1) Cardboard
2) Handmade sheet/ Designer sheet (lill thick will be better)
3) Scissors
4)Cutter
5) (Optional) Photograph (for size)

so....

Step1:
Take two cardboard pieces...i had made frame for 4'' by 6'' photo so i took 9'' by 11''...but u can take any size depending on ur choice...

Step2: Place the snap in centre of one of the cardboard (lets call it Piece 1)

Step 3: Trace the outline of pic and cut the window from cardboard with size lill less then the actualy tracing from all side so that photo can be holded properly when its ready

Step 4: Now place the Piece of cardboard on the designer paper and cut the sheet with size about 2'' more on all the sides then that of the Piece....

Step 5: Now trace a window and cut it out in designer sheet as shown in picture below

Step 6: Now paste the cut part inside as shown in pic below

Step 7: Now u have to paste the sheet...u can paste it along one of the length side of cardboard or along one of the width as you want to keep your photoframe...This is done in order to make the slot for putting the photo in it...

Step 8: Remember the cardboard Piece two....here comes its use now...
put the piece two on handmade sheet and cut it out such that handmade sheet is lill longer at one side of the cardboard (This side should be the same as the side u had pasted the handmade sheet of piece one...i.e either length wise or width wise...i hope u have got this point..??)

Step 9: Now put piece one on piece two as shown in pic...

Step 10: Now the last step...paste the three sides of designer paper from piece on at back of piece two...and then paste some paper at the back of piece two so that u can hide visible cardboard piece...

HOW TO DO KUNDAN FLOWERS

MATERIALS:

KUNDAN STONES WITH HOLES(REQUIRED SIZE)
GOLDEN STRING
WHITE BEADS
THREAD AND GREEN TAPE

METHOD:

CUT THE STRING TO THE REQUIRED SIZE,INSERT THE STRING FROM THE BOTTOM HOLE FROM FRONT TO BACK,BRING THE STRING TO TOP HOLE FROM BACK TO FRONT.AGAIN BRING THE STRING TO BACK SIDE AND TWIST BOTH THE STRINGS.LIKEWISE DO ALL THE STONE AND KEEP IT.
TAKE A STRING,INSERT THE BEAD IN THE CENTER AND TWIST BOTH THE STRING TOGETHER,THIS IS YOUR POLAND.
THEN ARRANGE FIVE PETALS FOR EACH FLOWER AND TIE IT WITH THREAD.
COVER THE STRING WITH GREEN TAPE,NOW YOUR FLOWER IS READY.
TAKE A THICKER STRING,AND ARRANGE THE FLOWERS ONE BY ONE WITH THE HELP OF GREEN TAPE.
FOR EXTRA DECORATION,I HAVE ADDED SINGLE GREEN STONES AS LEAF AND SINGLE PEARLS AS BUD.

CREATING MAPLE LEAF

HI FRIENDS,
GOT BORED OF MAKING FLOWERS ALL THE TIME?
WANT TO TRY OUT SOME THING DIFFERENT?
YA ME TOO FELT THE SAME WAY SO TRIED THIS MAPLE LEAF.
THIS IS MY FAVORITE PATTERN AND WANTED IT TRY OUT ON SOME THING.ONE DAY IS SAW THESE LEAVES IN A SHOP.THEY HAVE KEPT A VERY LARGE BUNCH OF THESE LEAVES.SO I THOUGHT WHY DON'T I TRY IT OUT AND THE OUT COME IS THIS.PLEASE LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS:-)

MATERIALS:

WHITE CHART PAPER
FABRIC PAINTS
CRACKLE MEDIUM
THIN AND THICK WIRE
BROWN TAPE
GLUE N GLOSS

METHOD:

CUT A MAPLE LEAF DESIGN IN A THICK CHART PAPER,THIS WILL BE YOUR TEMPLATE
WITH THE USE OF THE TEMPLATE CUT THE NUMBER OF LEAVES YOU WANT
FIRST COLOR THE LEAF WITH YELLOW.THIS WILL BE YOUR BASE COLOR,AFTER IT DRIES APPLY A THICK COAT OF CRACKLE MEDIUM.
AFTER 5 TO 10 MINS THAT IS WHEN THE CRACKLE MEDIUM IS HALF SET APPLY THE SECOND COLOR.THE SECOND COLOR SHOULD BE LITTLE WATERY.ADD COLOR AND WATER IN 3:1 RATIO
ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF THE SECOND COLOR ONLY YOU WILL GET THE CRACKS,SO APPLY IT ACCORDING TO THE DIRECTION OF THE LEAF
CUT THIN WIRE TO THE REQUIRED SIZE AND STICK IT TO THE BACK SIDE OF THE LEAF WITH GLUE N GLOSS
AFTER IT DRIES MIX GLUE N GLOSS AND WATER IN RATIO 4:1 AND APPLY IT EVENLY ON THE LEAF,SO THAT IT WILL BECOME SHINNY AND WASHABLE ALSO.
THEN ATTACH THE LEAVES TO THE THICKER WIRE WITH BROWN TAPE.NOW YOUR LEAVES ARE READY TO DECORATE YOUR HOUSE.

FABRIC PAINTS

METHOD:

MIX GOLD DUST AND VARNISH AND GIVE IT FOR JEWELLERY,DRESS BORDERS,AND WHERE EVER NEEDED.
AFTER IT DRIES PAINT HAIR,FEATURES OF THE LADY AND VERY SMALLER PARTS(IN SMALLER PARTS YOU CANNOT FILL GEMSTONE,IN MY PICTURE LEAVES ARE TOO SMALL,SO I PAINTED IT WITH FABRIC GREEN).
ONCE IT DRIES,APPLY FABRIC GLUE IN A PART AND SPRINKLE THE GEMSTONE POWDER(DESIRED COLOUR) AND TAP THE EXCESS.
LIKE THAT FILL ALL THE PARTS ONE BY ONE.
FOR BACKGROUND CHOOSE FOUR TO FIVE COLOURS,AND GIVE IT ONE BY ONE FROM LIGTH TO DARK.

HOW TO DO CRACKLE PAINTING ON GLASS

USING CRACKLE MEDIUM ON GLASS IS SOME WHAT DIFFERENT FROM USING IT ON OTHER SURFACES.ON OTHER SURFACES YOU HAVE TO USE A BASE COLOUR ANT THEN MEDIUM AND AGAIN ONE MORE LAYER OF COLOUR.
IN GLASS FIRST APPLY THE MEDIUM AND WHILE ITS HALF SET APPLY THE FIRST LAYER OF COLOUR.LET THIS DRY COMPLETELY.NOW YOU WILL GET CRACKS AND SINCE THE MEDIUM IS TRANSPARENT GLASS WILL BE SEEN IN BETWEEN THE CRACKS.SO,WHERE EVER GAP IS THERE APPLY THE SECOND LAYER OF COLOUR.(NOTE THIS WORK SHOULD BE DONE ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THE GLASS)

WHITE TILE OR CERAMIC PLATE
GLASS PEBBLES,STONES
FEVICOL
3-D OUTLINERS
GLASS COLOURS

TAKE GLASS COLORS BLUE AND GREEN IN A PALETTE,DAB THE COLOURS ON THE TILE WITH SPONGE.

STICK THE PEBBLES ON THE TILE WITH FEVICOL,WHERE EVER YOU WANT THE FISHES

NOW STICK THE WHITE STONES IRREGULARLY ON THE TILE FOR THE BASE.YOU CAN STICK SOME BROKEN GLASS PIECES ALSO

YOU CAN CREATE FISHES,TORTOISE,STAR FISH ETC,UP TO YOUR IMAGINATION.SELECT THE PEBBLES ACCORDING TO THE SHAPE.
NOW DRAW THE FINS,WINGS,TAILS EVERYTHING WITH THE 3D OUT LINER.
GIVE SOME PLANTS WITH GREEN COLOUR 3D OUT LINER.
YOU CAN KEEP ON DEVELOPING THE DESIGN WITH YOUR IMAGINATION.

BUT TELL YOU WHAT,PAINTING ON POT WILL LOOK VERY VERY GOOD.TODAY I TRIED A FLORAL DESIGN,SO SHARING WITH YOU ALL.

ALL YOU NEED TO DO THIS POT PAINTING IS A POT OFCOURSE:),PRIMER,FABRIC PAINTS,BRUSHES,AND CLEAR VARNISH.

SAND PAPER THE POT WELL UNTILL IT BECOME SMOOTH.
APPLY A COAT OF PRIMER AND LET IT DRY.
DRAW THE FLOWER DESIGN ON POT.
PAINT THE FLOWERS WITH FABRIC PAINTS,DIFF COLOURS.
PAINT THE AREAS BTW THE FLOWERS WITH BLACK PAINT.
GIVE A THICK WHITE OUTLINE FOR FLOWERS.
AFTER IT DRIES FOR 2 HOURS,GIVE A COAT OF CLEAR VARNISH.
NOW YOUR BEAUTIFULL POT PAINTING IS READY.

HI ALL,
IN THIS POST I AM GOING TO TELL HOW TO DO A SILK PAINTING.ITS SIMPLE BUT GIVES A ELEGANT LOOK.

MATERIALS:

SILK OR SATIN CLOTH
SILK COLOURS
GUTTA
EMBROIDERY FRAME
SYNTHETIC BRUSH NO:2

METHOD:

TAKE THE REQUIRED DESIGN AND TRANSFER IT TO THE CLOTH WITH YELLOW CARBON
DRAW THE OUTLINE OF THE DESIGN WITH GUTTA(HAVE TO USE GUTTA JUST LIKE GLASS LINER).LET IT DRY.
GUTTA WILL BE IN HALF WHITE COLOUR WHILE APPLYING,ONCE IT DRIES IT WILL BECOME TRANSPARENT.
TAKE A DROP OF COLOUR IN THE BRUSH AND DROP IT,SINCE THE COLOUR IS VERY WATERY IT WILL SPREAD BY ITSELF.
YOU SHOULD DROP THE COLOUR IN THE CENTER,SO THAT IT WILL SPREAD ITSELF TO THE CORNER.DON'T PAINT IT IN THE CORNERS OTHERWISE IT MAY COME OT.
LET IT DRY FOR ONE DAY AND THEN WASH THE CLOTH IN THE RUNNING WATER TO REMOVE THE GUTTA FROM CLOTH.
IRON IT ON THE REVERSE SIDE.

NOTE:

WHILE DOING THE OUTLINE,THE TIP OF THE NOZZLE SHOULD TOUCH THE CLOTH.IF THERE IS ANY GAP BTW THE CLOTH N GUTTA OR ANY BREAKS IN UR LINING THE COLOUR WILL EASILY COMES OUT

this time i came up with flower making tutorial.this speaker flower is some thing very very easy to do,even beginners can do without much effort.

MATERIALS:
DUPLEX PAPERS
POLAND'S
GREEN TAPE
NO:10 THREAD
BROOM STICKS

METHOD:

FIRST CUT RECTANGLE PIECES OF PAPER IN DIFFERENT SIZES
STRETCH THE EDGES OF THE FLOWER AND GIVE SHAPE TO THE FLOWER
PUT GLUE AT ONE END AND STICK BOTH THE END OF THE PAPER TOGETHER
TAKE FIVE POLAND'S AND ATTACH IT IN THE BROOM STICK WITH THE THREAD.
NOW INSERT THE STICK THROUGH THE HOLE OF THE FLOWER AND TIE IT WITH THREAD(POLAND SHOULD COME OUTSIDE OF THE FLOWER).
NOW COVER THE REST OF THE STICK WITH GREEN TAPE.

THAT'S IT,YOUR SIMPLE YET BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS ARE READY.TRY IT OUT AND GIVE NE YOUR FEED BACKS

HOW TO DO DUPLEX PAPER FLOWER:SPEAKER FLOWERS

Materials:
satin ribbon two different colors
cardboard
fevicol

Procedure:

Take a square shape cardboard.
Measure the length of the cardboard and cut satin ribbons little extra than the size of the board
Stick one end of the ribbon to the back side of the cardboard.Do like that for the other color ribbon also
Then take any one color of ribbon and weave it with the other.while weaving your ribbon should go up and down(that is pink should come up once and yellow should come up the other time)
like wise take each ribbon weave it and stick it at the end with fevicol

HOW TO USE CRACKLE MEDIUM

CRACKLE MEDIUM IS A TRANSPARENT MEDIUM WHICH GIVES A CRACKED EFFECT OR ANTIQUE EFFECT TO YOUR PAINTING.YOU CAN USE THIS CRACK EFFECT AS THE BACKGROUND FOR YOUR PAINTING,OR WHILE PAINTING A TREE OR SAND PORTIONS OR WATER OR ANYTHING TO GIVE A ROUGH TEXTURE.YOU CAN USE THIS MEDIUM IN SURFACES LIKE GLASS,PLYWOODS,POT ETC. THIS WILL BE VERY INTERESTING TOO,..SO LETS SEE HOW TO USE IT.

TAKE ANY TWO CONTRAST SHADES OF FABRIC PAINTS,SAY BROWM AND YELLOW
FIRST APPLY A COAT OF YELLOW COLOUR AS THE BASE.LET IT DRY FOR 5 MINS
THEN TAKE THE CRACKLE MEDIUM IN A PLATE,APLLY A THICK COAT OVER THE YELLOW COLOUR WITH FLAT BRUSH,LET IT DRY FOR 10 TO 15 MINS.
WHILE IT'S SEMI DRY,TAKE BROWM COLOUR IN A PLATE MIX IT WITH WATER AND DILUTE THE PAINT AND THEN APPLY IT WITH A FLAT BRUSH OVER THE CRACKLE MEDIUM.
AFTER 5 MINS,THE PAINT WILL START CRACKING.LEAVE IT TO DRY FOR TWO HOURS.AFTER THAT YOU CAN DECORATE IT WITH ANY THING,LIKE YOU CAN STICK SOME PICS AND DO DECOUPAGE WORK ON TO IT.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

THE DRECTION OF THE SECOND LAYER OF THE PAINT MATTERS.IN WHICH DIRECTION YOU APPLY THE SECOND COAT,YOU WILL GET THE CRACKS ACCORDING TO THAT.(SO NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE BASE COAT AND CRACKLE MEDIUM COATING)
YOU CAN USE SPONGE INSTEAD OF BRUSH TO APPLY THE SECOND COLOUR,TO GET DOTTED CRACKS.(YOU CAN USE THIS TECHNIQUES FOR PAINTING A SAND PART OR WATEr.

Tips &tricks:According to me anyone can learn the basics easily,that is how to do a painting or craft work or so...but the simple tips n techniques each one apply makes the huge difference between a great artist,good artist and a normal one...I myself use lot of tricks n techniques if the regular things doesn't work for me.So if you have any ideas n tips like that you can share it here.

Tutorials:There are lot of tutorials going to be featured here,so if you have any tutorials to share(old or new one)from your blog you are more than welcome.Initially to start with we will share the tutorials already we have on our blogs,the idea is this should be a one stop place for all the tutorials.And as we progress we will be adding more new tutorials too.
